At Southwest, we are committed to protecting your privacy. You can travel through most of our site without giving us any information about yourself. But sometimes we do need information to provide services that you request, and this statement of privacy explains data collection and use in those situations. Please read the complete Southwest Statement of Privacy.
Collecting your Personal Information
We will ask you when we need information that personally identifies you (personal information) or allows us to contact you. Generally, this information is requested when you are contacting us or setting up an account through our product catalog. Personal information collected by Southwest often is limited to basic contact information but may include other information when needed to provide a service you requested.
Use of your Personal Information
We use your personal information for the following purposes:
- To make the site easier for you to use by not making you enter your personal information more than once.
- To deliver services that you request or purchase.
- To help us create and publish content most relevant to you.
- To alert you to site updates, special offers, updated information and other new services from Southwest.
We occasionally hire other companies to provide limited services on our behalf, including answering customer questions about products or services, sending postal mail and processing registration forms. We will only provide those companies the information they need to deliver the service, and they are prohibited from using that information for any other purpose.
Southwest may disclose your personal information if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to: (a) conform to the edicts of the law or comply with legal process served on Southwest or the site; (b) protect and defend the rights or property of Southwest and its family of Web sites, or (c) act in urgent circumstances to protect the personal safety of users of Southwest, its Web sites, or the public.
Control of your Personal Information
When you register, or otherwise give us personal information, Southwest will not share that information with third parties without your permission, other than for the limited exceptions already listed. It will only be used for the purposes stated above.
Registering also allows you to tell us how or whether you want Southwest to communicate with you. At the time of your registration you set your preferences to be contacted, or you can always tell us not to contact you.
Southwest may send out periodic e-mails informing you of technical service issues related to a product or service you requested. You will not be able to choose to unsubscribe to these mailings, as they are considered an essential part of the service you have chosen.
Access to your Personal Information
If you would like to review or revise information you previously provided on an online form, or believe that what we currently have on record is incorrect, you may update your information in the Account section of this website. There you will be able to:
- View and edit personal information you have already given us at Southwest.
- Tell us whether you want Southwest to send you email.
- Set preferences for using features on Southwest.
Security of your Personal Information
Southwest strictly protects the security of your personal information and honors your choices for its intended use. We carefully protect your data from loss, misuse, unauthorized access or disclosure, alteration, or destruction.
Your personal information is never shared outside the company without your permission, except under conditions explained above. Inside the company, data is stored in password-controlled servers with limited access.
You also have a significant role in protecting your information. No one can see or edit your personal information without knowing your password, so do not share this with others.
Use of Cookies
Southwest uses "cookies" to help you personalize your online experience. A cookie is a text file that is placed on your hard disk by a Web page server. Cookies cannot be used to run programs or deliver viruses to your computer. Cookies are uniquely assigned to you, and can only be read by a web server in the domain that issued the cookie to you.
One of the primary purposes of cookies is to provide a convenience feature to save you time. For example, if you register with Southwest sites or services, a cookie helps Southwest to recall your specific information on subsequent visits. This simplifies the process of recording your personal information, such as addresses, email, and so on. When you return to Southwest, the information you previously provided can be retrieved, so you can easily use the Southwest features that you customized.
You have the ability to accept or decline cookies. Most Web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can usually modify your browser setting to decline cookies if you prefer. If you choose to decline cookies, you may not be able to fully experience the interactive features of the Southwest services or Web sites you visit.
Changes to this Statement
Southwest will occasionally update this privacy statement. When we do, we will also revise the "last updated" date at the top of the privacy statement. For material changes to this Statement, Southwest will notify you by placing prominent notice on the Web site.
