What is the difference between wideback, narrowback and oval combs?
This terminology isn't used very much today, but there are differences between wideback, narrowback and oval combs. By far the most popular is the wideback plastic comb. It is available in ΒΌ" through 2", and it is what you will get when you order plastic comb binding unless you specificy something different. Narrowback combs have a smaller spine to turn the book back on itself, but they are no longer offered in the U.S.. The oval combs look just like a wideback comb, but they have longer fingers giving the book more stability. This is usually needed with the larger size combs, where the weight of the paper can become an issue with the book. Need help deciding which comb to order?
